Fudgy Homemade Brownie Recipe: Easy, Rich, and Irresistible

There's something magical about a freshly baked brownie — that crackly top, the deep chocolate aroma filling your kitchen, and that first bite of pure, fudgy bliss. Whether you're a seasoned baker or someone who's just looking for a simple weekend treat, this brownie recipe is about to become your new favorite. It uses basic pantry ingredients, comes together in one bowl, and delivers bakery-level results every single time. Grab your apron and preheat that oven — let's make some brownies!

Easy and Delicious Brownie Recipe

Freshly baked fudgy brownies cut into squares on parchment paper

This is the kind of brownie that strikes the perfect balance — rich and chocolatey with a soft, gooey center and a beautifully shiny, crackled top. The secret lies in melting the butter and chocolate together gently, then whipping the eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. It's a foolproof method that turns simple ingredients into something truly special. Serve these warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or let them cool completely for that classic dense, fudgy texture.

1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter
6 oz (170 g) dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (90 g) chocolate chips or chunks (optional)

Classic Brownie Recipe for Beginners

Rich chocolate brownie batter being spread evenly in a baking pan

If you've never baked brownies from scratch, this is the recipe to start with. The process is straightforward, and the steps below walk you through everything — from melting the chocolate to testing for doneness. The key is not to overbake: pull the pan out when the center still looks slightly underdone, and the residual heat will finish the job as the brownies cool. Let's walk through it step by step.

1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter
6 oz (170 g) dark chocolate, chopped
3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (25 g) cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (90 g) chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal.
In a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water, melt the butter and chopped chocolate together, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract until pale and slightly thickened, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and stir until fully combined.
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold with a spatula until just incorporated — avoid overmixing.
Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly with a spatula.
Bake for 22 to 28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before lifting them out and cutting into squares.
Serve and enjoy — store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
