Air Fryer Roasted Chicken Recipe: Crispy, Juicy, and Zero Drama

Let's be honest: roasting a whole chicken in the oven is a beautiful idea until you're staring at a dry bird, a greasy pan, and a kitchen that feels like a sauna. Enter the air fryer — the appliance that promised us crispy fries and somehow also delivers a perfectly roasted chicken with golden skin and juicy meat. This recipe is so simple it's almost suspicious. No basting every ten minutes, no wrestling a hot pan, no tears. Just a chicken, some seasoning, and the satisfying hum of your air fryer doing all the heavy lifting. Whether you're a seasoned home cook or someone whose smoke alarm is basically a dinner bell, this one's for you.

Guloso qb: Frango assado na airfryer ou no forno

Look at that skin. That's the kind of golden, crackly perfection that makes people think you spent hours in the kitchen. Spoiler: you didn't. The air fryer circulates hot air around the chicken like a tiny, efficient convection oven, which means the skin gets crispy while the inside stays impossibly juicy. This version works beautifully whether you go with the air fryer or a regular oven — but we both know which one wins on effort and cleanup.

• 1 whole chicken (about 3 to 4 pounds), giblets removed
• 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
• 1 tablespoon paprika
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary
• Salt and black pepper to taste
• 1 lemon, halved (optional, but fancy)
• A few sprigs of fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)

1. Pat the chicken completely dry with paper towels. This is the secret to crispy skin — moisture is the enemy.
2. Rub the chicken all over with olive oil or melted butter, getting into all the nooks and crannies.
3. Mix the paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper in a small bowl, then massage the seasoning onto every inch of the bird.
4. If using lemon and herbs, stuff them inside the cavity for extra flavor.
5. Preheat your air fryer to 360°F (180°C) for about 5 minutes.
6. Place the chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket. Make sure it fits comfortably — no cramming.
7. Cook for 25 minutes, then flip the chicken breast-side up and cook for another 20 to 25 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
8. Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before carving. Yes, you have to wait. It's the hardest part of the recipe.

Frango Assado na Airfryer

Here's the beauty of this method: it's forgiving. Throw in some quartered potatoes or carrot chunks around the chicken and you've got a full meal with basically zero extra effort. The vegetables soak up all those glorious drippings and come out tender with crispy edges. If you're feeding a crowd, you can also cut the chicken into pieces before cooking — it cooks faster and gives you more crispy surface area. Either way, this is the kind of dinner that makes you look like a kitchen wizard while you secretly binge-watch something on the couch.

• 1 whole chicken or 6 to 8 chicken pieces (thighs and drumsticks work great)
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
• 1 teaspoon cumin
• 1 teaspoon oregano
• 3 cloves garlic, minced
• Juice of half a lemon
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Optional: 2 medium potatoes, cubed, and 1 carrot, sliced

1. In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, paprika, cumin, oregano, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to make a marinade.
2. Coat the chicken pieces thoroughly in the marinade. Let them sit for at least 20 minutes if you have the patience.
3. If using vegetables, toss them in the remaining marinade and place them in the bottom of the air fryer basket.
4. Arrange the chicken pieces on top of the vegetables in a single layer. Work in batches if needed.
5. Set the air fryer to 380°F (190°C) and cook for 30 to 35 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the skin is crispy and the internal temperature hits 165°F (74°C).
6. Rest for 5 minutes, then serve hot with the roasted veggies and an extra squeeze of lemon.
