Fudgy Brownie Recipe Step by Step: The Ultimate Chocolate Fix

Welcome, fellow chocolate addicts! Today we're diving into the wonderful, messy, cocoa-dusted world of brownies — those glorious squares of happiness that sit somewhere between cake and fudge and pure joy. This brownie recipe step by step is so easy that even your kitchen-averse friend who burns toast can nail it. Grab your apron, preheat that oven, and prepare for a chocolate experience that will make your taste buds throw a tiny party. Warning: excessive drooling may occur during the baking process.

The Brownie That Started It All

Look at that beauty. That, my friends, is the dream: a brownie with a shiny crackly top and a molten, fudgy center that practically begs to be eaten warm with a cold glass of milk. This is the kind of brownie that makes people say "I'll just have one" and then mysteriously return to the pan four times. Let's gather the goods before the anticipation kills us.

• 200g (7 oz) dark chocolate, chopped (the good stuff — don't skimp)
• 150g (2/3 cup) unsalted butter
• 200g (1 cup) granulated sugar
• 3 large eggs, at room temperature
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 100g (3/4 cup) all-purpose flour
• 30g (1/4 cup) cocoa powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• A generous handful of chocolate chunks (optional, but honestly not optional)

Mixing, Melting, and Mild Chaos

Now comes the fun part: making the batter. It's a simple dance of melting, whisking, and folding, with just enough mess to feel like a real baker. Melt the chocolate and butter together until glossy, whisk the eggs and sugar until pale and slightly fluffy, then combine everything gently so you don't knock the air out of your soon-to-be masterpiece. Follow these steps and you'll be golden — well, chocolatey.

1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper. Grease it like you mean it.
2. Melt the chopped dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water (or microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between each). Let it cool slightly.
3. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, and vanilla until pale and slightly thickened — about 2 to 3 minutes of enthusiastic whisking.
4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and fold gently until combined.
5. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, then fold with a spatula until just combined. Overmixing is the enemy of fudgy brownies.
6. Fold in the chocolate chunks, then pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
7. Bake for 22 to 28 minutes, until the edges look set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not dry!).
8. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan — yes, completely — then slice into squares and try not to eat the entire batch standing at the counter.

And there you have it — a brownie recipe step by step that delivers fudgy, chocolate-packed squares every single time. Serve them warm with ice cream, share them with friends (or don't), and enjoy the glorious aftermath of a kitchen that smells like a chocolate factory. Happy baking, chocolate champions!
