With European summer just around the corner, Aussie travellers are already planning their great escape – and one tiny suitcase from Kmart has become an unlikely hero of the travel season.
The Vanity Case with Strap, retailing for just $29, is being hailed as the budget buy of the year after a viral

video revealed just how much can fit inside.
In the short clip, the compact case swallows up a pair of jeans, a sweater, a t-shirt, a makeup bag, travel tech, cords, and hair accessories with ease – all while staying stylish and carry-on friendly.
It’s already becoming a must-have for those heading off on sun-drenched European holidays, where minimal packing is key and budget-friendly luggage is essential.
Though technically marketed as a makeup or vanity case, shoppers are already imagining endless uses for it: as an overnight hospital bag, craft storage, a car boot organiser, or even a portable toy kit for kids on the go.
‘This stylish Vanity Case with Strap offers a convenient and chic way to store your cosmetics and personal items… it’s perfect for travel or daily use,’ the description reads.
With a hard shell, zip closure, removable and adjustable shoulder strap, and top carry handle, the case is designed to protect belongings and look good doing it.
And while this particular model is newly released – and still building its fanbase – Kmart’s previous travel cases and luggage options have a cult-like following among budget-conscious Australians.
Kmart suitcases in the past have received praise for style and reliability.
‘I’ve had my Kmart hard-shell suitcase for three years now. It’s been to Bali, Europe and back – no dents, no issues,’ wrote one shopper about a previous travel release.
‘Fits more than you think. I packed all my carry-on stuff plus shoes and makeup,’ another said.
A third customer described her Kmart case as ‘a game-changer for travel – light, durable, and cute enough that I get asked where it’s from.’
Many users also noted the budget-friendly price point as a major drawcard.
‘At that price, even if it lasted just one big trip, it’d be worth it,’ said one woman, who used hers for both cabin luggage and at-home storage between trips.
Others have used their Kmart cases as hospital bags, baby essentials kits, and emergency overnight bags stashed in the car.
‘It’s so much easier than lugging a full suitcase around when you only need a change of clothes and your toiletries,’ a mum wrote on Facebook.
‘I’ve packed mine for the maternity ward and it’s all I’ll need.’
With airfares rising and cabin bag limits shrinking, this $29 may just be the unofficial luggage MVP of winter 2025.
