(UPDATE) PHILIPPINE tennis sensation Alex Eala and world No. 3 Coco Gauff are set to partner for the Italian Open women’s doubles tournament in Rome on Friday (Philippine time).
The announcement from the tournament’s website came on Thursday, where both Eala and Gauff earned a wildcard spot in the doubles event.
They are set to face world No. 26 Alexandra Panova of Russia and No. 50 Fanny Stollár of Hungary in the women’s dou-bles round of 32.
Eala lost in the first round of the women’s singles event to Ukraine’s Maryna Kostyuk, 6-0, 6-1, on Wednesday.
The Filipina recently reached a career high in the WTA, as she is now ranked No. 70 in the world.
