Whether you are cooking for a cozy family dinner or preparing a weekend treat, these chicken thighs deliver bold flavor and irresistible texture. Follow along to create a batch of crispy chicken legs that will have everyone reaching for seconds.

Golden Crispy Fried Chicken Legs

These chicken legs are the star of the show, with a deep golden crust that crackles with every bite. The coating clings beautifully to the skin, creating an even, crunchy layer that seals in the juices. Serve them piping hot alongside your favorite dipping sauce or a fresh salad for a complete meal.

6 chicken legs (drumsticks), skin on
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt, plus extra for seasoning
1 cup buttermilk (or milk mixed with 1 tablespoon lemon juice)
1 egg
Vegetable oil for frying

Crispy Chicken Thighs with Fresh Salad

Crispy fried chicken thighs served on a plate with fresh salad and carrot

Pairing the chicken with a light salad and shredded carrot balances the richness of the fried coating. The contrast of crunchy, savory chicken against fresh greens makes for a colorful and satisfying plate. This serving suggestion is perfect for a weeknight dinner that feels special without extra effort.

4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
Oil for shallow frying
Mixed salad leaves and grated carrot for serving

Pat the chicken legs and thighs dry with paper towels, then season generously with salt and pepper on all sides.
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne, salt, and black pepper.
In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk and egg, whisking until smooth.
For the breaded thighs, set up a third bowl with the breadcrumbs.
Dip each piece of chicken into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
Coat the chicken thoroughly in the seasoned flour, pressing gently so the coating adheres. For the breaded thighs, dip into the egg and then press into the breadcrumbs.
Place the coated chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for 10 to 15 minutes so the coating sets.
Heat about 1 inch of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the chicken in batches, without crowding the pan, for 12 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Transfer the fried chicken to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serve immediately with fresh salad, grated carrot, and your favorite dipping sauce.
