Crispy KFC-Style Chicken Wings Recipe You Can Make at Home

There is something about KFC-style fried chicken wings that just hits different — that shatteringly crisp coating, the juicy meat underneath, and that unmistakable seasoned flavor that keeps you reaching for one more piece. I have spent way too many evenings trying to recreate that magic in my own kitchen, and after plenty of trial, error, and a few greasy countertops, I finally landed on a version that gets me dangerously close. These wings are golden, crunchy, and completely irresistible, and the best part is that you probably already have most of the ingredients sitting in your pantry. Whether you are planning a cozy movie night, feeding a hungry crowd on game day, or simply craving something indulgent, this recipe delivers every single time. Let me walk you through how I make them, step by step, so you can enjoy that same crispy perfection without ever leaving your house.

The Secret to That Signature Crispy Coating

Before we get into the full method, let me share the one thing that changed everything for me: the double-coating trick. Dunking each wing in a seasoned flour mixture, then a quick egg wash, then back into the flour creates those craggy, crunchy ridges that stay crisp far longer than a single dip ever could. I also like to let the coated wings rest for about ten minutes before frying — this helps the breading adhere properly so it does not slide off in the oil. The seasoning blend is where you can really make it your own, but I stick close to that classic combination of paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a touch of cayenne for a gentle kick.

Ingredients You Will Need

500g chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
1 teaspoon salt, plus extra for seasoning
2 eggs, beaten
2 tablespoons milk
Vegetable oil, for frying

Bringing It All Together

Once your wings are coated and the oil is shimmering at around 350°F (175°C), it is time for the fun part. Fry them in small batches so the oil temperature does not drop too much — overcrowding is the fastest way to end up with soggy, pale wings. Each batch usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are deeply golden and cooked through. I always transfer them to a wire rack rather than paper towels so the underside stays crunchy instead of steaming. A final sprinkle of salt while they are still hot, and you are ready to serve. These wings disappear fast, so I highly recommend making a double batch if you have a hungry group.

Step-by-Step Cooking Instructions

Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cayenne, and salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs together with the milk to make an egg wash.
Working one wing at a time, dredge it in the flour mixture, dip it into the egg wash, then return it to the flour mixture, pressing firmly so the coating sticks.
Place the coated wings on a wire rack and let them rest for 10 minutes.
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the wings in small batches for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.
Transfer to a wire rack to drain excess oil, sprinkle with a little extra salt, and serve hot.

And there you have it — crispy, flavorful chicken wings that taste like your favorite takeout but come straight from your own kitchen. I love serving mine with a side of creamy dipping sauce, a few lemon wedges, and maybe some crispy fries on the side. Give this recipe a try the next time a craving strikes, and do not be surprised if it becomes your new go-to. Happy cooking!
